À Sherbrooke, le 14 janvier 2026, est décédé à l’âge de 78 ans et 11 mois Charles Ellery Johnston, époux, complice et aimant de Guylaine Roy Johnston. Ils résidaient à Bolton-Est.
Il laisse dans le deuil ses fils Charles et Martin, ses belles-filles Nathalie Van Hoenacker et Gigi Rodriguez, ses petits-enfants Philippe, Catherine et Élizabeth, son frère William, son beau-frère et ses belles-sœurs: Léonce Roy (Hélène Bergeron) et Yseult Roy Raby, ses neveux et nièces, nombreux parents et amis.
Charles Ellery était reconnu dans la communauté pour son implication bénévole dans différents organismes. Il aura été entre-autres marguiller à la paroisse Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours de Brossard et président du Club Optimiste de Jean-de-la-Mennais. Il aura également été actif plus de 25 ans au sein de Scout Canada à Brossard, ainsi qu’aux niveaux provincial et national. Dans toutes les organisations où il a œuvré, il aura laissé sa marque et aura été un exemple d’engagement.
La famille tient à remercier les parents et amis qui ont accompagné Charles Ellery tout au long de la maladie ainsi que le personnel médical du CHUS Fleurimont et Hôtel-Dieu de Sherbrooke pour le support et les soins prodigués.
La famille sera présente au Complexe funéraire Le Sieur le vendredi 27 mars de 17h30 à 20h30 et le samedi 28 mars de 9h à 11h afin de recevoir les condoléances des parents et amis. Une cérémonie hommage à Charles Ellery suivra ce même samedi à 11h à la Chapelle Le Sieur.

On January 14, 2026, in Sherbrooke, passed away Charles Ellery Johnston at the age of 78 years and 11 months. He was the devoted and loving husband of Guylaine Roy Johnston. They resided in Bolton-Est.
He is survived by his sons, Charles and Martin; his daughters-in-law, Nathalie Van Hoenacker and Gigi Rodriguez; his cherished grandchildren, Philippe, Catherine, and Elizabeth; his brother, William; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Léonce Roy (Hélène Bergeron) and Yseult Roy Raby; as well as his nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.
Charles Ellery was widely respected in his community for his lifelong commitment to volunteer service. Among his many contributions, he served as a churchwarden at Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours Parish in Brossard and as President of the Jean-de-la-Mennais Optimist Club. He was also actively involved with Scouts Canada for over 25 years, serving at the local level in Brossard as well as at the provincial and national levels. In every organization he served, Charles Ellery left a lasting impression and exemplified dedication, leadership, and generosity of spirit.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the relatives and friends who supported Charles Ellery throughout his illness, as well as to the medical staff of CHUS Fleurimont and the Hôtel-Dieu de Sherbrooke for their compassionate care and support.
The family will receive condolences at the Le Sieur Funeral Complex on Friday, March 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on Saturday, March 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A memorial service celebrating the life of Charles Ellery will follow on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Le Sieur Chapel.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
