M. Bertrand Antoine Laforte (Bert) 1931-2025

February 7, 1931 – January 15, 2015

(Born in Kénogami, Quebec)

Bertrand passed away peacefully in Montreal after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease, surrounded by his devoted sons, Pierre and Jean François. Bertrand was the loving husband of Rita Bélanger (deceased).

Son of the late Philippe and Mathilde Dallaire,

Bertrand was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses:  René (Marie-Paule Boucher), Pierrette (Gérard Bouchard), Léopold (Yvette Lavoie), Jeanne d’Arc (Laurent Martin), Conrad (Hélène Gauthier), Évelyne (Charles Belley), Thérèse (Réal Dubois), Fernand (Marie Boily), Yvette and Gaston.

Bertrand is survived by his sons, Pierre (Cécile) and Jean François, as well as his sister, Jeannette (Laurier Gilbert), Maude Tremblay (wife of Gaston). Along with nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends.

A special thank you to Debrah and her husband, Rick for all the love and support that they gave to our father over the past 30 years. As well to Reverend Jan Jorgensen for being present in his life when he most needed her council. And for being there to give him a beautiful send off.

Bertrand graduated from University of Montreal in civil and nuclear engineering. He led an adventurous life, travelling the world to work on major engineering projects in many countries including Canada, Iran, Poland, Germany, Cyprus, Africa and California, where he worked for the American National Defence.

His career culminated with the construction of the world’s longest bridge (at the time) in South Korea.

He was a lifelong learner who spoke seven languages, renovated many of his homes, created stained glass and studied acrylic painting.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Alfred Desrochers Residence for their compassionate care of Bertrand.

A tribute to Bertrand’s memory will take place in the spring 2025 in Chicoutimi and Montreal.  Announced in the Complexe Funéraire LeSieur site on the 15th April 2025

Donations to LA Maison du Père, founded by Bertrand’s cousin, Father Guy Laforte would be greatly appreciated. http://weblink.donorperfect.com/jappuielaMdP
